About

Carrying legacies forward.

Unbroken Dog Ventures was founded to buy, operate, and continue small American businesses.

Our story

Built on respect for the owners who came first.

Small businesses employ roughly half of America's private-sector workers, and many were built by owners who are now deciding what comes next. Our aim is simple: buy a good business, treat its people and customers well, and build on what the founder started.

The name comes from the story of Louis Zamperini, told in Laura Hillenbrand's book Unbroken, and from the tenacity and loyalty of man's best friend.

Tyler Kohman

Founder

Tyler grew up in Columbus, Ohio, and studied civil engineering and public policy at Carnegie Mellon, where he played football. He built a career as a civil engineer in Atlanta, became a licensed Professional Engineer, and went on to an MBA at Georgia Tech while in The Home Depot's leadership development program.

He started Unbroken Dog Ventures to become the long-term owner and operator of a small business, and to build on the work of the entrepreneurs and community builders who inspired him growing up.
